Are you about to start driving a truck or bus or do you need to extend your higher qualification? Then you are warmly welcome to us at Medicinska Intyg for your digital medical certificate. We opened our first clinic more than 10 years ago. All our doctors are trained in traffic medicine and affiliated with the Swedish Transport Agency.
You will need to renew your driving license at regular intervals, and each time you do so, you will need a new medical certificate. You will often have received the medical certificate from the Swedish Transport Agency, which you do not need to bring with you as we fill in all the information digitally.
We are centrally located in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Helsingborg, Linköping, Karlstad, Södertälje and Halmstad.
During the visit, you will first be asked to identify yourself (valid physical ID) and fill in a health declaration. These are mainly questions about illnesses, health conditions, risk factors and any medications. You will then see a doctor who will carry out an eye examination, don't forget to bring glasses if you wear them. We need to examine your vision with and without glasses, if you have lenses you need to be able to remove them. Then we do a health examination where we examine the heart, blood pressure and neurology. Then you go through together if there are any questions or additions. The doctor then sends your medical certificate digitally directly to the Swedish Transport Agency!
The Swedish Transport Agency divides the different driving licence ratings into three groups.
Group I: Includes driving licences AM, A1, A2, A, B and BE and tractor rating
Group II: Includes C1, C1E, C and CE
Group III: Includes D1, D1E, D and DE as well as TAXI
The requirements for the medical examination to obtain a driving licence vary between the different groups and are determined by the Swedish Transport Agency. The requirements are stricter in Groups II and III compared to Group I.
Vision: For Group I, you must achieve a visual acuity of at least 0.5 when you see with both eyes together. It is acceptable to have vision in only one eye as long as you see at least 0.5. Restrictions in the field of vision or double vision may lead to the need to see an eye specialist.
For groups II and III you have to be able to see with both eyes and you need to be able to see at least 0.1 with the worst eye and 0.8 with the best. These permissions also place higher demands on the field of vision and one must not have any type of double vision.
For the medical certificate, glasses or lenses may be used to achieve sufficient visual acuity, but for groups II and III, the refractive power of the visual aid must not exceed plus 8 dioptres (this is stated in the prescription given to you by your optician). If you need a visual aid to achieve adequate vision, you must also always use a visual aid when driving a vehicle.
Hearing: There are no hearing requirements for Group I and II qualifications, so you can be completely deaf and still qualify for such a license. For Group III, you must have sufficient hearing to communicate with passengers; if you need a hearing aid to achieve sufficient hearing, you must use it when driving the vehicle.
Certain diseases and conditions may prevent or require more frequent checks for medical clearance, especially for those wishing to hold one of the higher qualifications.
This mainly applies to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, seizure disorders, neurological diseases and conditions that can cause rapid or unexpected loss of consciousness. Often this is not an absolute barrier, but the Swedish Transport Agency requires proof that the disease is well treated and under good control. This often means that it is the treating doctor who must write a separate certificate regarding the illness.
Two common examples of this are poor vision and having to go to an optician to get new glasses, or having diabetes, which is accompanied by a special certificate from your doctor.
